About this role:
The Senior Building Engineer is responsible for supporting the safe, efficient, and reliable operation of all building systems across the USGA’s New Jersey campus. This role includes hands-on maintenance and repair of HVAC, mechanical, plumbing, and electrical systems, with a focus on chillers and boilers. The ideal candidate holds relevant certifications and brings a proactive, problem-solving approach to maintaining building performance.
What you'll do:
- Campus Maintenance
- Conduct daily inspections of all building systems to ensure they are performing and operating as designed.
- Maintain and repair electrical, plumbing, HVAC, generator, fire and life safety, security, carpentry, painting, and other building systems.
- Perform preventive and corrective maintenance across HVAC and building systems – physical plant includes: (3) 80-ton Multistack chillers, (2) 96-ton Carrier chillers, (2) 401-ton cooling towers, (2) 123-ton cooling towers, (3) Aerco boilers, and (2) Hydrotherm boilers.
- Monitor, adjust, and troubleshoot Building Management System (BMS) controls.
- Respond to service calls and building system alarms in a timely and professional manner.
- Maintain accurate records of all inspections, maintenance, and repair work in campus CMMS.
- Ensure all work complies with local, state, and federal codes, including safety and environmental regulations.
- Support inspections and testing for life safety systems (sprinklers, fire alarms, etc.).
- Assist with seasonal changeovers, emergency repairs, and capital projects as needed.
- Contract Management
- Support planned and emergency service and repairs for building systems.
- Provide day-to-day oversight and support of contractors working on site, ensuring a safe and productive project environment and guiding contractor to completion of work scope.
- Occupant Support
- Maintain a high level of customer service and occupant satisfaction by ensuring the site is clean, well-maintained, well-organized and free of defects and debris.
- Provide support for setups and catering for events and meetings.
- Participate in the management of site storage spaces.
Where you'll be:
This position is based at our Liberty Corner, NJ campus and will work on-site 5 days per week, Monday - Friday. As needed, there will be occasional support or response for after-hours events or emergencies. This is a full-time, salaried position classified as exempt from overtime.
What you bring:
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Trade school or vocational education preferred.
- 3-5+ years of experience in commercial or institutional building maintenance.
- EPA Section 608 Universal Certification.
- Certification or training in low pressure boiler operation and maintenance - black seal license preferred.
- Certification or training in chiller operation and maintenance - blue seal license preferred.
- Familiarity with energy management systems (e.g. Siemens, Johnson Controls, Honeywell).
- OSHA 10/30 Hour Construction Safety Certification.
- Working knowledge of CMMS software.
- Ability to read mechanical, electrical, and plumbing drawings and schematics.
- Must be able to traverse property and facility to diagnose building issues and plan repairs or maintenance.
- Must be physically able to perform repairs when needed.
- Must be able to lift 40 pounds at a time.
- Valid drivers' license.

Salary Range: $75,000 - $90,000
The annual base salary range for this position is $75,000 - $90,000. This range represents what we reasonably expect to pay as starting base compensation for this role. Compensation is based on several factors that are unique to each candidate, including skill set, depth of experience, and relevant certifications.
